Eleventh president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the summer of 1972 until his death. He held one of the shortest stints in the church's history.

He worked as an elementary school teacher before embarking on his first mission.

He organized a storehouse and welfare program to help churchgoers during the Great Depression.

Family Life

He married Fern Lucind Tanner in 1923, and they remained married until her death in 1962. In 1963, he married Freda Joan Jensen.
